The listed price is for up to 2 guests. Thereafter, a $20 linen charge applies to the 5th guest and beyond. This will ensure all bedding is set up for each person staying in The Coach House.

Please note there is a 2 night minimum stay.

The Space

The Coach House is a unique property directly above the Walhalla Goldfields Railway Train Station. It is the first house you see from the road when you arrive in Walhalla.

You can just sit back with a glass of wine and soak up the atmosphere while gazing into the fire or enjoy the views across Stringers Gorge. Stringers Creek flows through the valley directly below the house and the only noise to disturb the tranquillity is that of the rushing creek, the calls of the black cockatoos, kookaburras and lyrebirds, or the whistle of the steam train as it passes by.

Kitchen

There is a fully equipped kitchen and dining room area with views across the valley and Stringer's Creek. The kitchen features plenty of bench and cupboard space, crockery, cutlery, glasses, pots and pans, a fridge, a gas oven/grill/cooktop, kettle, toaster, microwave, and a gas heater to take the chill off in Winter. The dining table and 8 chairs provide seating for everybody. There is also a highchair available for young children (no tray). A complimentary supply of tea, coffee and sugar is provided.

Bathroom (Ground Level)

The lower bathroom features a lead light window and a bath perfect for small children. There is a separate shower in the bathroom, and a separate toilet off the downstairs games room for your convenience.

Lounge Room

Upstairs, the spacious lounge boasts a cosy wood heater plus electric wall heating. There are comfortable couches and a Smart TV. There are also plenty of games, puzzles, cards, toys and books to entertain the whole family.

Bathroom (Upper Level)

There is an upstairs bathroom featuring a toilet, basin and a shower.

Bedrooms

The large Master bedroom opens on to the lounge. It features a king size bed, down doona, bedside lamps, antique furnishings and more stunning bushland views.

The second bedroom also opening on to the lounge room and has a double bed with a cosy feather doona, bedside lamps and an antique dressing table. The third bedroom also opens on to the lounge and has one set of bunks and doonas.

There is a pull out couch in the upstairs lounge room.

There is another bunk bed downstairs in the games room as well as another pull out couch.

For the safety of children, there is a built-in stair gate at the top of the stairs.

Outdoors

There is an outdoor dining table and chairs on a shady lawn with views across Stringer’s Creek. There are also lawn chairs to lounge in and take in the solitude and undercover seating. Please note that the property is not fenced.

You will have access to the whole house.

You also have the option of renting the 1-bedroom, 2-person cottage next door, Stringer's Cottage, which is fully self-contained and comes with all linen and the queen bed made up for your arrival.

While staying at the Coach House, you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private, with the only sounds the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about 15 minutes from the rest of the town.

Everything is within walking distance, and the house sits above the tourist railway line, a 5-minute walk away. There is parking for four vehicles in the driveway. Walhalla has just one long main road, and we are the first house you will see from the road as you come into town. The pub is a 10-minute walk, and then it's a further 10 minutes to the rest of the shops. The gold mine is another 10 minutes on, and you can walk to the top of the town along the road in half an hour, depending on your pace, and return via the walking track that gives a view over the town. This track continues a further 5 kilometres to Thomson River and you can catch the tourist train back if you time it right.

History

The Coach House was built between 1968-72, by the former Walhalla and Thomson River Steam Tramway Pty Ltd, (W&TRST) as hostel accommodation for voluntary workers who rebuilt the former railway between Thomson and Walhalla. The building project was led by Ron Caine.
