Stringer's Cottage

About this space

Stringer’s Cottage is a private, romantic getaway in a gorgeous bush setting and features a luxurious queen size bed with all linen and towels provided. There is a cosy wood fire, a split system heating/cooling unit, a well-equipped kitchen overlooking the creek with gas oven, cooktop and fridge, toilet and shower. Bedside lamps add ambience and there is a selection of books to browse through. There is also a small selection of games and two comfy armchairs by the fire in the bed-sitting room.

The space

Stringer’s Cottage features a queen size bed with a luxuriously warm doona and plenty of pillows. Bed linen and towels are provided. The bedroom has windows opening on to a bushland setting, and the fireplace adds to the romantic ambience. Firewood is provided, keeping the cottage cosy in Winter.

In Summer, Stringer’s Cottage is a great escape from the heat. Leave the screen door closed and enjoy the valley breezes, the smell of eucalyptus and the sound of the creek below. The large bedroom features two comfy armchairs and a wide selection of books and magazines to while away the time.

The kitchen has a fridge, stove, oven and plenty of crockery and cutlery. Complimentary tea, coffee and milk are provided for you. The kitchen counter overlooks Stringer’s Creek so you can sit and enjoy the view while you eat.

The bathroom features a shower with instantaneous gas hot water, and a toilet with hand basin. The cottage is light and bright with its own porch and outdoor dining space under cover. A wooden staircase (40 steps) leads up to the road where you are just a short walk to the historical Goldfields Railway. Parking is on the road at the top of the stairs, to the right of the two gas bottles.

You have access to the whole cottage. Please note the property is not fenced and certain areas of the property is restricted for guest access.

There is a minimum 2 nights' booking on weekends. For long weekends and public holidays a surcharge may apply.

A baby's cot can be provided at no extra cost, but please let us know in advance.

While staying at Stringer's Cottage you will experience the serenity of a real bush environment. It is very peaceful and private with the only sounds being the birds and the rushing water of Stringer's Creek below. 

The scenic Walhalla Goldfields Railway runs for part of the year on Wednesdays and weekends, and there are also gold mine tours. There are walking ghost tours on Saturday nights. You are 10 minutes walking distance from the pub and about another 5 minutes to the rest of the town. Rawson is a 15 minute drive, Erica 25 minutes, Mt. St. Gwinear 45 minutes away with tobogganing and cross-country skiing,  and Mt Baw Baw 50 minutes drive for skiing, tobogganing and snowboarding.

You do not require a 4WD vehicle, although there are lots of local tracks to explore if you do have one.

Water Usage

We are on tank water in Stringer's Cottage. We therefore ask you to be conscientious with your water usage and conserve wherever possible.  

Guest access

Cottage and small garden area. The property is not fenced.
